CTE Faculty Participate in Canvas LMS Retooling Session to Strengthen Digital Teaching Practices

The Canvas LMS Retooling Session for the College of Teacher Education (CTE) was conducted on May 29, 2026, at Room G311, with Ar. Danielle Miko D. Arcebal, LMS Coordinator, serving as facilitator. The activity brought together CTE faculty members for a focused re-orientation on the effective use of Canvas as the University’s official Learning Management System (LMS).

The retooling session was designed to reinforce faculty understanding of the purpose, features, and proper utilization of Canvas in supporting teaching and learning. Through the activity, participants gained a clearer perspective on how the platform can be maximized to enhance course delivery, streamline instructional processes, and improve the overall learning experience of students.

Faculty members were provided with step-by-step guidance on setting up their Canvas courses and creating organized course modules. The session emphasized the importance of structuring learning materials in a logical and student-friendly manner, ensuring that course content is complete, accessible, and easy to navigate from one topic to the next.

In addition, the seminar introduced practical strategies for improving instructional efficiency through the use of Canvas tools such as SpeedGrader and rubrics. These features enable faculty members to assess student outputs more effectively, provide timely feedback, and maintain consistency in evaluation through clearly defined criteria. Best practices for fostering student engagement in online and hybrid learning environments were also discussed, equipping participants with techniques to encourage active participation and meaningful interaction beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Ar. Arcebal emphasized that the platform is intended to simplify the administrative aspects of teaching, allowing faculty members to spend less time managing course logistics and more time mentoring, guiding, and supporting student learning.

Through this initiative, the College of Teacher Education reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening faculty readiness for digital and hybrid learning environments. By enhancing faculty competencies in the effective use of the Canvas LMS, the College continues to support the delivery of quality, learner-centered education that meets the evolving demands of higher education.

This activity aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by empowering educators with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver effective, inclusive, and technology-enhanced instruction. It also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the adoption and utilization of digital learning technologies that promote innovation and continuous improvement in higher education.
