Faculty members from various colleges participated in a professional learning session on September 5, 2026, at Peer Learning Room (PLR) 4, facilitated by Ms. Joycelyn Ituriaga, LMS Coordinator. The session provided faculty members with a practical look at how Canvas LMS can be integrated into the different stages of course management and instructional delivery.
Ms. Ituriaga presented her workflow in using Canvas, beginning with populating course content and organizing learning materials, followed by creating assessments, grading student outputs, and providing feedback directly within the platform. She demonstrated how this approach allows faculty members to manage key instructional processes in one centralized environment.
The session also highlighted how Canvas can be used as a digital class record. Ms. Ituriaga demonstrated the process of maintaining class records within Canvas, exporting the necessary records, and integrating them into the UC Class Record System. This workflow provides a more streamlined way of managing academic records while reducing the need to maintain separate records across different systems.
During the open discussion that followed, faculty members raised various questions and concerns based on their experiences with Canvas. Among the topics discussed was the attainment of Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs). Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ariel Nimo Pumecha, addressed the questions and provided guidance to the faculty members regarding the monitoring and documentation of CLO attainment.
The session demonstrated how Canvas can extend beyond content delivery and serve as a practical tool for connecting course management, assessment, grading, feedback, and academic recordkeeping. By sharing an actual workflow, the activity gave faculty members ideas that they can adapt to their own teaching practices.
This initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by supporting effective teaching, assessment, and academic management through digital tools. It also contributes to SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the integration of digital technologies into instructional and academic processes.
