The Community of Practice on Technology-Enhanced Teaching and Learning, Session 2 for the 1st Term of Academic Year 2026–2027, was held on October 3, 2026, at Peer Learning Room (PLR) 4, UC Libraries. The session featured Mr. Zen Lee D. Foryasen of the College of Information Technology and Computer Science (CITCS), who shared practical approaches to developing clear, accessible, and well-organized digital learning materials.
The presentation emphasized how faculty members can draw on their digital familiarity, including technical skills, design tools, and experience working with data, to improve their teaching practices. It also highlighted the importance of choosing appropriate formats for instructional content. Canvas pages are suitable for information and instructions that require regular updates, while downloadable documents are useful for references and worksheets that students may need to consult offline.
Another key point was the need for clear and specific instructions in online learning activities. Students should be able to identify the task, understand the expected output, and determine how to submit their work. By presenting these details clearly within Canvas, faculty members can reduce confusion, improve course navigation, and help students complete learning activities more independently.
Through the session, faculty members gained practical insights into designing digital course content with greater attention to usability, accessibility, and the needs of learners. The exchange of ideas supports the Community of Practice’s broader goal of encouraging faculty collaboration and continuous improvement in technology-enhanced instruction.
This initiative aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education by promoting effective, accessible, and learner-centered teaching practices. It also supports SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure through the purposeful use of digital tools and innovative approaches to strengthen teaching and learning in higher education.
